Your Opportunity:

TraceLink is seeking a full-time Team Lead of Technical Communications, responsible for leading a team of Technical Writers of varying specialities and experience. This position will have 3-5 direct reports.

TraceLink’s Technical Communications team is service-focused, collaborative, and detail-oriented. We aim to create and maintain technical documentation and information assets that help users plan, install, administer, and troubleshoot our products while also enabling developers to build and customize applications on our Opus Platform. Our user base encompasses a broad range of readers, from first-time users to seasoned developers and technical implementers.

The Solutions Team Lead is responsible for applying their knowledge of software delivery, the documentation development lifecycle (DDLC), project and team management, customer and partner relationship management, CMS technology, localization strategy, UX copy best practices, and document design to help plan and deliver world-class content in support of TraceLink’s family of cloud-based desktop and mobile applications.

You will coordinate cross-functionally with peers in Product Management, User Experience, Marketing, Engineering, Services, and Architecture to prioritize and deliver optimal documentation across multiple ambitious roadmaps, ensuring the execution of the content strategy and vision set by the Product Experience Leadership team. 

This position reports to the Manager of Technical Communications and is a part of the greater Product Management Organization.


What will you be doing?

This position is responsible for...



Facilitate a team culture that is both productive and enjoyable, delivering high quality content within two-week iterations. Directs the team’s rapidly changing priorities to meet release deadlines while also implementing documentation enhancements. Serve as JIRA facilitator to track key Document Development Life Cycle (DDLC) milestones for each project while gathering project metrics. Maintain team wiki to ensure onboarding and daily operations/processes are consistent and accessible. Reports directly to Technical Communications top leadership to assess product needs and subsequently communicate requirements to contributors while reporting documentation and team performance.



Partner with Product Experience leadership on continual content demands and governance. Guide solution definition through persoane, Information Architecture (IA), and UX copy patterns to ensure consistent execution. Ensure the team is set up with proper process and tooling to execute rapid and iterative content generation to scale, across a vast product portfolio.



Deliver the evolution of solution content, including desktop and mobile help centers inclusive of API reference material and UI procedures.


In this role you will...

  • Build and maintain a highly effective team, delivering world-class product documentation in lock step with product releases.


  • Own accountability for executing the content strategy, content development, milestone reporting, and high-quality documentation delivery.


  • Coordinate, scope, and plan against project plans across multiple work streams.
  • Become a subject matter expert (SME) for TraceLink technology and build strong relationships by working collaboratively with Product Owners across the organization to ensure that all content developed is in accordance with product best practices, use case models, and presentation techniques.


  • Become an expert in our own writing styles and standards, and ensure our teams adopt, use, and contribute to the consistent usage of these standards across the entire product ecosystem.
  • Identify skill gaps within the team and work to fill gaps with talent, experience or training.
  • Coach, mentor, lead, and provide career guidance and development to multidisciplinary writing professionals across the globe.
  • Leverage latest technical writing methods, such as collaborative writing, self-service content, “walk me” copy, and more.
  • Work with product owners and architects to develop realistic multi-generational product plans that properly prioritize, scope, and plan for research, drafting, editorials, document design, technical reviews, UX copy, and other key DDLC milestones at all phases of the product development process. 
  • Work with Product Experience Leadership to understand market needs and content vision, and ensure that vision is translated into a content experience using our writing styles and standards as well as our anthem design standards.


What we're looking for...


Basic Qualifications:
3+ years of professional experience in software development or application development
3+ years managing and leading teams to successfully deliver content on time and within budget


Technical Expertise:
Effectively create, edit, and/or architect technical content for public consumption.
Work collaboratively with a team of cross-functional content leaders to meet enablement content needs of a global business.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated experience in content management, information architecture, technical writing for users, localization processes, and document design for both print and online.
Demonstrated understanding of an iterative, user-centered, feedback-led documentation process.
Demonstrated experience planning and scoping projects and deliverables from a blank sheet of paper through post-production.
Expert in using MadCap Flare authoring tools or comparable toolset.
Experience using project roadmap planning and Agile tracking tools such as Confluence, Jira, Excel.
Extensive knowledge of the DDLC and approaches for integrating writing processes with software development, the SDLC, and Agile.
Knowledgeable on providing proofing, editorial, and constructive writing feedback.
Experience as a lead writer leading and coordinating the work of other writers.
Strong existing domain knowledge of pharmaceutical, healthcare, or related industry is preferred.
Javascript, GraphQL, CSS, and HTML skills are a plus.
