    TraceLink is seeking a Cloud Operations Engineer with strong background in Red Hat / CentOS Linux supporting J2EE web applications and production Software as a Service applications to join the Cloud Operations team supporting Tracelink’s Life Sciences Cloud products. 


    The Cloud Operations Engineer is a key member of the team responsible for the operations, maintenance and monitoring of TraceLink’s cloud-based software services providing track and track services to the pharmaceutical and other industries.  Operating entirely in the Amazon Web Services cloud, the Life Sciences Cloud utilizes traditional software modules running on dedicated ec2 instances, as well as container-based services and serverless (lambda) services.  This engineer will assist in managing Tracelink’s AWS cloud resources, analyze and understand AWS service usage patterns, plan for current and future capacity requirements, and help control costs.  This person will become the expert in Tracelink’s AWS service utilization across many AWS technologies, including, EC2, ECS, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, Cloudsearch, Elasticache, Redshift, API Gateway, Lambda, and Cloudwatch, to name a few.  By understanding these technologies/services and how the Life Sciences Cloud uses them this person will recommend and implement strategies to monitor and maximize the efficiency of our service utilization.


    Key Responsibilities:


    • Support TraceLink’s J2EE SaaS web applications and AWS Elastic Container Service (docker) containers providing track and trace services to the pharmaceutical and other industries
    • Learn the Tracelink Life Sciences Cloud architecture and understand the various components that it is comprised of, as well as the Infrastructure as Code environment used to support it.
    • Become familiar with all the AWS services that the Tracelink Life Sciences Cloud uses, including, EC2, ECS, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, Cloudsearch, Elasticache, Redshift, API Gateway, Lambda, and Cloudwatch
    • Understand how the Life Sciences cloud utilizes these AWS services and recommend/implement strategies for their efficient utilization and cost control
    • Develop scripts to enhance and improve Tracelink’s monitoring of AWS service usage, limits, and costs
    • Provide support, as necessary, to maintain Tracelink’s Life Sciences Cloud in an operational state on a 24 x 7 basis for our customers and partners
    • Participate as a level 2 escalation point in an on-call rotation to respond to and address any system, application, or network issues, including those that occur outside normal business hours.
    • Communicate with all parts of the TraceLink organization, in both verbal and written capacity.


    Required Skills:


    • 3 years of direct, hands-on operations experience supporting J2EE web applications in a SaaS environment. Candidates with experience supporting other web application server technologies and 1 year of J2EE will be considered.
    • 1 year of experience with AWS services preferred
    • Possess a solid background in Linux/Unix systems administration, including OS deployment, configuration, maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting
    • Experience writing shell/bash scripts to automate tasks/processes
    • Experience scripting in python a definite plus
    • 3 years of experience as a Red Hat / CentOS Linux system administrator
    • Excellent written and oral communications skill in English
